This guide covers the RaceROM rolling launch for the latest V9 RaceROM only for V8 and previous to GT-R RaceROM Launch Control, Rolling Launch and BOTL

RaceROM Rolling Launch

As the name suggests, Rolling Launch is a type of launch control that can be performed from a rolling start.

For the RaceROM V9 it has been significantly revised to simplify it's use, uses a different method of activation, gives different end results and may require fine tuning for heavily modified cars to give the desired response.

Method of Operation

If Rolling launch is enabled in the current Mapswitch mode and, and all the temperature activation thresholds are met, Cruise control is OFF, actuating the cruise control UP key to the second position will trigger the system to become active.

The boost target will be modified to be the lower of Rolling Launch Target Boost Pressure and Rolling Launch Maximum Boost Target and the ignition will be retarded to suit.

The Accel Pedal will need to be pressed and modulated to maintain speed as the cruise control is no longer used to fix the speed.

Typical use would be:

  1. Enter Mapswitch mode that enables Rolling launch
  2. Get to target speed
  3. Press CC UP button fully AND depress accelerator pedal to build boost and limit speed
  4. Release cruise UP button to go!

This is not designed for holding the car at full boost for extended periods of time, and doing so will almost certainly cause damage.

Map List

Rolling Launch Enable

Rolling launch will only be available when enabled in each respective mapswitch mode.

Rolling Launch Engine Temperature Minimum

If enabled in the current Mapswitch mode, Rolling launch will not available until this engine coolant temperature is reached.

Rolling Launch Ignition Proportional

A correction to to the Rolling Launch Ignition Timing Base that typically retards the ignition to increase the boost, and advances the ignition to reduce the boost.

Rolling Launch Ignition Timing Base

While active the ignition advance is overridden to use this base value + the correction from  Rolling Launch Ignition Proportional but will not exceed the non Rolling Launch timing.

Rolling Launch Maximum Boost Target

Used set the boost target duringRolling launch. Typically under the full target, but high enough to ensure instant acceleration upon release. Values are in absolute pressure as per the main boost target, so the default values of up to 1.60bar will give around 0.6bar of gauge pressure at sea level.

This value is further limited by Rolling Launch Target Boost Pressure.

Rolling Launch ReArm Timer

After one activation of rolling launch has been terminated, the ECU will wait this time before reactivating it. This is used to prevent abuse or over heating, however this may need to be reduce to near zero for some users.

Rolling Launch Target AFR

Used to override the current AFR target while Rolling launch is active, one value per Mapswitch mode.

Rolling Launch Target Boost Pressure

A target of Manifold Absolute Pressure to achieve using Rolling launch, also limited by Rolling Launch Maximum Boost Target such that the lower of the two values at any point will become the target boost.

Rolling Launch Temperature Maximum

Maximum engine coolant temperature used to enable Rolling launch.

Rolling Launch Throttle Compensation

A basic addition to the throttle angle used to overcome the loss of power experienced due to the retarded ignition.

If the retard used to build boost results in the car bogging, you may need to first limit the retard used (and not use significant retard at low RPM)  and/or open the throttle more.

Rolling Launch Timeout

This limits the maximum activation time for each use of rolling launch before it will deactivate for a time set in Rolling Launch ReArm Timer

Rolling Launch Transmission Temperature Minimum

Minimum transmission temperature required to enable the use of rolling launch. This may be required to be lowered for roll racing which may take place with transmissions not fully up to temperature.

RaceROM Rolling Launch

Rolling Launch throttle compensation has been updated with a different strategy for taking control of the throttle that should prevent spurious Drive-By-Wire related DTCs from being generated. The method of operation is otherwise unchanged and is detailed below (taken from existing manual).

As the name suggests, Rolling Launch is a type of launch control that can be performed from a rolling start.

To operate Rolling Launch, drive the car at a steady speed in a low gear - 60km/h in 2nd gear is about right. Set the cruise control to maintain the vehicle speed. Now press the accelerator pedal all the way down to the floor. Instead of accelerating, the ECU will initiate an anti-lag effect. This will rapidly generate a large amount of boost, controlled using a proportional closed loop mechanism. But the car will continue to hold steady at the selected vehicle speed. When you are ready to launch, press the CANCEL button on the steering wheel. The cruise control will disengage, the throttles will open fully and the ignition timing will advance. This unleashes a large amount of torque and causes rapid acceleration in an instance.

The rolling launch feature will work in any gear and at any RPM or vehicle speed.
