BMW RaceROM Display Hijack

Introduction

EcuTek RaceROM is a package of special software features that can be installed into the ECU of the supported vehicles. You simply open your ECU ROM file using EcuTek software, apply the RaceROM Feature File (Patch) to it, adjust the RaceROM maps as necessary, and then program the ROM file into the vehicle.

Please read How to: Add/Remove EcuTek Race Rom to your Vehicle. Feature File Guide for info on how RaceROM works, how to install and uninstall RaceROM feature files, and further hints and tips.

Feature

The RaceROM Display Hijack, allows you to use the factory Sports Display for Power and Torque, and replace those with a different output value, or use it as an interactive adjustment for custom maps and torque.  To use it, you'll first want to make sure the Power and Torque gauges are displayed on the vehicle's cluster.

Sports Display Options

This map sets up the different options for what the two gauges can do.  These will need to be changed from the stock operation option prior to using them for custom maps. etc.

  • Custom Map Output During Map Switch
This option displays the output value of a custom map whenever you're going through the process of changing maps.  (When you hit cancel on the cruise control prior to changing maps).  Set in the output definition section of the custom map you are using.

  • Custom Output Always
Setting this to active will always output the value of a custom map.  Set in the output definition section of the custom map you are using.

  • RaceROM Controller Input
Use of this function allows the use of the display as an adjustable percentage to use as an input for RaceROM custom Maps.  To Set you'll need to add the selected display as the channel input.

  • Ethanol Content During Map Switch
Displays ethanol content when going through the process of changing maps.

RaceROM Controller Power/Torque Default

The default level (%) for either the Power or Torque gauge to be set to.  For use when using this function as an input.

RaceROM Controller Power/Torque Max

The maximum level (%) for either the Power or Torque gauge to be set to.  For use when using this function as an input.

RaceROM Controller Power/Torque Min

The minimum level (%) for either the Power or Torque gauge to be set to.  For use when using this function as an input.

RaceROM Controller Power/Torque Name for App

Changes the name shown in the map/mode switch menu of the Ecu Connect app.

RaceROM Power/Torque Gauge Max

Sets the maximum number to be shown on the gauge.  While a percentage value being output to the gauge will always read correctly (i.e. 75% goes to 3/4) the numbers will differ.  This map adjusts the scaling of the gauge in order to correct that issue.  Some vehicles utilise slightly different scaling for the gauge system, since ours from the factory goes up to 800, we set the value to 400, as we can easily divide by 4 to get the actual value.  However the values you'll want to use are going to differ based on the scale used by your display.

Adjusting the Display Hijack Value for Custom Map Inputs

In order to adjust the output value for either the power or torque hijack gauges you'll go through the following procedures.

  1. Hold the resume button on the cruise control.
  2. you should see the rpm and sport gauges move.
  3. In the first position you can change maps (as indicated on the tach)
  4. Press resume again to adjust the Torque gauge value.
  5. Press it one more time to adjust the power value.
